Hickory City Council Meets In Regular Session, Final Vote On Budget Among Second Readings

Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday (June 18). Minutes, second readings, and the consent agenda were all approved.

Among the items approved in second readings was the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Recommended Budget. It was approved on its first reading on June 4. City Manager Warren Wood first delivered his Recommended Budget to Council on May 21. It totals $144,793,945 for all City operations, capital improvements, and debt service requirements for the upcoming year. This represents a 5.8% increase over the current year’s budget.

The property tax rate for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 was recommended to remain unchanged at 45.5 cents per $100 of assessed value. Following the public hearing on June 4, City Council unanimously approved the budget. Final approval came at Tuesday’s meeting.

In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the Community Development Block Grant Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan was approved by a unanimous vote. Members were also appointed to boards and commissions. Deputy City Attorney Arnita Dula was recognized by City Council and was congratulated for all of her years of service.
