Hickory City Council Meets, Approves Annexation Related To 141 Unit Apartment Complex

Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday (April 18). During the meeting, a public hearing was held to hear comments on the consideration of a voluntary contiguous annexation of 33.29 acres on 12th Avenue SE owned by Redwood Hickory. The property owner has requested annexation in order to connect the property to the City’s utility system.

The property is currently vacant but has received approval to construct a 141-unit residential apartment complex. The property owner intends to construct an apartment complex on the entire tract, which would result in additional tax revenue once completed and assessed. The annexation was unanimously approved by council.

Also during last night’s meeting, a public hearing was held to hear comments regarding the consideration of the voluntary contiguous annexation of 0.569 acres owned by Brandon Serrano at 3204 16th Street NE. This was unanimously approved by council.

A public hearing was also held to hear comments regarding the consideration of the closure of 8th Street Place SE off Lenoir-Rhyne Boulevard. This was also unanimously approved by council. Deputy City Manager/CFO Rodney Miller also presented the 3rd Quarter Financial Report during last night’s session.
