Hickory City Council, County Commissioners Hold Meetings This Week

Hickory City Council met in regular session Tuesday night (August 17). Re-elected officials took the oath of office. Mayor Hank Guess, Ward 4 Alderman David Williams, Ward 5 Alderman David Zagaroli, and Ward 6 Alderwoman Jill Patton were all sworn in Tuesday night.

Minutes, second readings, and the consent agenda were all approved by council. Council held a public hearing to discuss a voluntary contiguous annexation of property at 2800 Main Avenue SE. The item passed unanimously.

The annual code enforcement update was presented by Sergeant Kyle Brown. In addition, members were appointed to boards and commissions, to Parks, Recreation, and Sports Tourism.

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners met Monday (August 15) in regular session. A public hearing was held in consideration of the submission of a grant for the enhanced mobility of seniors and individuals with disabilities to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The board approved the item.

Commissioners also approved the consent agenda which included five items. Among those items was a request from the Finance and Personnel Subcommittee to appropriate $12,496,808 to be debt financed to fully fund the Maiden Elementary School construction project. In addition, the Policy and Public Works Subcommittee requested that the board authorize the Subdivision Roads Improvement projects for Shadowfax Wynd and Windmere Lane, and requested that they adopt Preliminary Assessment Resolutions for these projects.
