Hickory Assistant City Manager Steve Miller Receives State Public Works Award

A longtime City of Hickory leader is being recognized for more than three decades of public service.

Assistant City Manager Steve Miller received the Samuel A. Greeley Local Government Service Award from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Public Works Association during Monday night’s Hickory City Council meeting.

The award honors public works professionals who have dedicated at least 30 years of service to a single local government agency while also contributing to the advancement of the public works profession.

Miller began working for the City of Hickory in 1993 and has served in several leadership roles over the years, including Street Division Manager, Assistant Public Services Director, and Public Works Director. Earlier this year, he was promoted to Assistant City Manager.

City officials say Miller has played a key role in supporting city operations and long-term strategic initiatives throughout his career.

Miller said the North Carolina chapter of the APWA has been instrumental in his professional growth and called the recognition a tremendous honor.
