Hickory, N.C. — A portion of 23rd Avenue Northeast in Hickory will be closed next week for sewer repair work.

According to the City of Hickory, a private contractor will close 23rd Avenue Northeast from North Center Street (N.C. 127) to Fourth Street Northeast beginning Monday, June 22, at 8 a.m.

City officials say the closure is necessary to complete sewer repairs. A detour route will be provided during the project.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 26, at 5 p.m.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling through the area to help ensure the safety of workers and the public.
