Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a barn fire involving hay bales Friday morning (June 19) in Stony Point.

According to the Iredell Free News, the West Iredell Fire Department, along with the Stony Point and Monticello fire departments and the Iredell County Rescue Squad, were dispatched to Grayhouse Road at about 9:00 a.m. after reports of hay bales on fire inside a barn.

When crews arrived, they found a farmer and farm workers already removing burning hay bales from the structure. Firefighters deployed one hose line into the barn and a second line to extinguish the bales that had been pulled outside.

The fire was brought under control without further incident, and all responding units returned to service by 10:57 a.m. West Iredell Fire Department Chief Jerry Houston served as incident commander.
