48-year-old Michelle Greene Brooks of Sandy Springs Road in Harmony was arrested by Hickory Police Saturday night (October 30) on felony counts of habitual larceny and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, along with one misdemeanor count of larceny by changing a price tag and resisting a public officer. In addition, she was served with outstanding warrants for felony and misdemeanor probation violations. Brooks is on probation as she serves an 18-month suspended sentence following a July 2020 conviction in Alexander County for misdemeanor larceny and a 36-month suspended sentence following a may 2019 conviction in Iredell County for felony obtaining property by false pretenses.
Brooks was taken into custody without incident at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday at a big-box store on Highway 70 S.E. in Hickory. She was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under an $18,000 secured bond. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled this past Monday (November 1) in Newton with another Catawba County court date coming up on November 22. Brooks was scheduled to appear in District and Superior Court today (November 3) in Iredell County.
