Habitual Felon Charge Among Counts Filed Against Suspect Arrested In Alexander County

61-year-old Edward Russell Luther was arrested Monday (April 29) by authorities in Alexander County. He’s charged with felony counts of being an habitual felon and possession of a phone or communications device by an inmate.

Russell is a felon as a result of multiple convictions dating back to 1982. He’s been convicted of felony and misdemeanor charges in Stanly, Richmond, Cabarrus, and Henderson Counties. His most recent conviction was in November, 2017 in Henderson County for multiple felony counts including larceny, obtaining property by false pretense, and habitual felon.

Following Monday’s arrest, Luther was incarcerated in the Alexander County Detention Center under $10,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (May 2). A Superior Court appearance is scheduled for June 3.
