Guilty Plea Entered In Connection To Fatal Shooting In Burke County
A Burke County man has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection to a fatal shooting in 2018. During a recent session of Burke County Superior Court, 36-year old David Andrew Barnes of Morganton entered the voluntary manslaughter plea after initially being charged with murder.

49-year old Roger Dewayne Hoglan was shot death in Eastern Burke County on August 15, 2018. An altercation between the suspect and victim led to the shooting. Barnes was injured after Hoglan backed a vehicle over his foot. Barnes will end up facing a mandatory prison sentence as a felon. His sentencing is scheduled for March 27.
