Greenard, Walter Feature For West Squad at East-West All Star Girls Basketball Game

The East-West All-Star Games had their basketball games starting the week off at the Greensboro Coliseum, Monday night. Representing the Hickory Metro in the basketball games were Hickory’s Gabriela Greenard and Alexander Central’s Julianna Walter in the girls game.

Walter had 10 points and was five-of-six from the free throw line in the West’s 62-55 win over the East. Walter shot two-of-six from the field. Greenard had two points on one-of-five shooting from the field.

The East-West All-Star Games were founded in 1949 by Coach Bob Jamieson of Grimsley High School and Smith Barrier, the Sports Editor of the Greensboro Daily News, to help finance the North Carolina Coaches Association coaching clinic. The games feature players who have just graduated from high school – the best from the Eastern half of North Carolina against the best from the West. Girls and boys basketball, girls and boys soccer and football are played in the Greensboro area in mid July in conjunction with the annual North Carolina Coaches Association coaching clinic.
