Granite Falls Man Charged With Violating Probation Following Arrest In Burke County

36-year-old Matthew Howard Roark of Peach Tree Lane in Granite Falls was arrested last Wednesday (October 18) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with two counts of felony probation violation out-of-county.

Roark was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. last Wednesday at an address on Cedar Street in Connelly Springs. He’s on probation as a result of a conviction in Burke County on November 2, 2022. Roark was convicted of felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and received probation and a 48 month suspended sentence.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, multiple convictions are listed for Matthew Roark. The convictions date back to 2012 and occurred in Burke and Catawba Counties. Most of the convictions were for felony charges. Those offenses include possession and sale of schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon and obtaining property by false pretense. Roark has multiple pending charges in Caldwell County including felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substance.

Following last Wednesday’s arrest, Roark was brought to the Burke County Jail, where bond was set at $60,000 secured bond. He has since been transferred to the Caldwell County Detention Center, where he was being held as of earlier today (October 24) under that same bond amount. Superior Court dates are scheduled for October 30 and November 6 in Caldwell County, along with a Burke County District Court date of November 17.
