Grand Opening Today For New Swim Beach In Alexander County

The public is invited to the grand opening and ribbon cutting at Wittenburg Access Area today (May 24) at 2:00 p.m. to showcase the new swim beach and associated amenities. The ceremony will feature remarks from Alexander County Commissioners and Duke Energy representatives.

The revamped Wittenburg Access Area, located at 175 Wildlife Access Road in Bethlehem, now features a swim beach, outdoor showers, changing area, restrooms, concessions, park office, picnic shelters, fishing pier, boat access, nature trail, and more.

The new swim beach officially opened earlier this week. The beach area will be open six days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays for maintenance) from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. A park attendant will be on duty with concessions available, including drinks, snacks, prewrapped sandwiches, and more. No lifeguard will be on duty.

During this first week of operation, the swim beach is conducting a “soft opening” with a limit of 50 people at a time. The Wittenburg Access Area is owned by Duke Energy. In 2019, Alexander County leased the property for 40 years.
