Grand Opening for Wittenburg Access Area Set for May 24

The public is invited to a grand opening and ribbon cutting at the Wittenburg Access Area on Friday, May 24 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will feature remarks from Alexander County Commissioners and Duke Energy representatives.

The revamped Wittenburg Access Area, located at 175 Wildlife Access Road in Bethlehem, now features a swim beach, outdoor showers, changing area, restrooms, concessions, park office, picnic shelters, fishing pier, boat access, nature trail, and more.

The new swim beach will officially open on Tuesday, May 21. The beach area will be open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Wednesdays for maintenance) from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. No lifeguard will be on duty.

The access area is owned by Duke Energy. In 2019, Alexander County leased the property for 40 years.
