Girls Flag Football Expands Across North Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. (WHKY) — Girls flag football is beginning statewide competition in North Carolina as schools respond to fast-growing interest in the sport.
High-school athletes across the state are joining newly organized teams operating under common rules and schedules. Supporters say the expansion provides another competitive opportunity for female students and could create a pathway toward college athletics.
Participation in girls flag football has grown nationally with support from schools, professional football organizations and athletic associations. Local schedules, team availability and eligibility requirements are set through participating school districts and athletic programs.
