If you use the Geitner Trail in Hickory, you’ll need to plan for some temporary closures starting this week.

City officials say the paved greenway connecting Hickory City Park and Rotary-Geitner Park will close beginning Wednesday, June 10, for a resurfacing project. Weather permitting, the work is expected to take about two weeks.

During construction, Rotary-Geitner Park will be closed to the public. That includes the park’s parking lot, the paved greenway, the Lake Hickory Trails mountain bike trail system, and portions of the elevated Riverwalk overland trail.

The Riverwalk overwater bridge will remain open and can still be accessed from the trailhead on Old Lenoir Road.

Meanwhile, Hickory City Park will remain open for tennis players throughout the project.
