Frye Regional Hosting Community Blood Drive Thursday
HICKORY, N.C. (WHKY) — Frye Regional Medical Center is teaming up with the American Red Cross for a community blood drive Thursday as officials work to maintain the blood supply.
The blood drive will be held Thursday, August 27, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Frye Regional Heart Tower Lobby at 420 North Center Street in Hickory.
Frye officials say donated blood is needed for patients undergoing surgery or cancer treatment, recovering from serious injuries and dealing with other medical conditions.
The American Red Cross declared an emergency blood shortage last month after its blood supply fell nearly 25 percent in June. The shortage has been particularly serious for O-positive and B-negative blood.
Appointments can be made through the American Red Cross blood donor website or app, or by calling 800-733-2767.
Frye says donors will receive a $20 Amazon e-gift card.
