Two COVID-19-associated deaths were reported Thursday (December 31) in Catawba County, increasing the overall total to 163. 195 new cases of the coronavirus were reported, upping the tally to 11,501. There were 120 people hospitalized with the virus in Catawba County.
Burke County Public Health reported 6,380 cases of the coronavirus Thursday, an increase of 274 from Wednesday’s update. There have been 82 virus-related deaths and 26 people were hospitalized.
According to Burke County Public Health, the large increase is due to the back log of cases being reported from outside testing sites including new testing sites and cases reported through the State Electronic Disease Surveillance System. The case increases are also due to the increased testing encouraged by the State over the last several weeks.
110 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Caldwell County Thursday, lifting the total to 5,860, with 77 deaths. There were 58 people hospitalized.
An outbreak was confirmed at the Caldwell County Detention Center Thursday, bringing the total number of outbreaks in the county to seven. Two inmates and one employee have tested positive.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 2,662 total cases in Alexander County this morning (January 1). That’s an increase of 20 since Thursday morning. There have been 30 COVID-related deaths in Alexander County.
