Friday Morning COVID-19 Update: New Cases Reported In All Four Hickory Metro Counties, Highest Single-Day Total In Caldwell

Catawba County Public Health reported 187 new cases of the coronavirus Thursday, increasing the total to 9,670. There have been 127 virus-related deaths in Catawba County. A pandemic-high of 94 Catawba County residents were in the hospital with COVID-19.

On Thursday, Caldwell County health officials learned of two COVID-19-related deaths and also reported a pandemic-high in positive cases. One of the patients who passed away was between the ages of 65 and 74, and the other was over the age of 75. One patient had been hospitalized, and both were reported to have underlying health conditions. There have been 57 coronavirus-associated deaths in Caldwell County. 203 new cases of the virus were reported in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 4,808. There were 49 Caldwell County residents hospitalized with the virus.

70 new COVID-19 cases were added Thursday in Burke County, increasing the overall total to 5,272, with 75 deaths. There were 23 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Burke County. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports 2,133 total cases of the virus in Alexander County today (December 18). There have been 21 COVID-19-related deaths in Alexander.
