Friday Morning COVID-19 Update: Death Reported In Catawba, New Cases Confirmed Thursday In All Hickory Metro Counties

Catawba County Public Health Thursday (August 20) reported a COVID-19 death, it’s the 37th coronavirus-related fatality since the start of the pandemic. 33 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday in Catawba County, increasing the total to 2,427. There were 18 people hospitalized with COVID-19, one fewer than Wednesday’s update.

Six new cases of COVID-19 were reported Thursday by the Alexander County Health Department, increasing the total to 348, with two deaths. 56 people were in quarantine with the coronavirus in Alexander County, and four people were hospitalized. At least 286 patients had recovered.

27 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday in Burke County, increasing the total to 1,919, with 31 deaths. There were 12 people hospitalized in Burke County, and at least 1,609 coronavirus patients had recovered. Caldwell County health officials reported 12 new COVID-19 infections Thursday, upping the count to 1,345, with 18 deaths. There were 19 people hospitalized and at least 728 patients had recovered.
