Friday Morning COVID-19 Update: Death Reported In Catawba County Thursday, Outbreak At Caldwell County Facility

A COVID-19-related death was reported Thursday (October 22) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the total to 62 during the pandemic. 67 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Thursday in Catawba County, lifting the overall count to 4,121. Hospitalizations increased to 33, from 31 Wednesday (October 21).

On Thursday, the Caldwell County Health Department confirmed seven cases at Shaire Center, marking the second outbreak at the facility. The first outbreak, which closed on August 20, had four cases. Staff at the facility continue to work closely with the Caldwell County Health Department to adhere to CDC and NCDHHS guidelines and to minimize exposure.

49 new COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday in Caldwell County, increasing the total to 2,307, with 30 deaths. There were 16 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Caldwell County. 34 new COVID-19 infections were reported Thursday by health officials in Burke County, increasing the total to 2,893, with 52 deaths. Hospitalizations dropped to six in Burke County, down from nine on Wednesday.

The Alexander County Health Department reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, lifting the total to 729, with nine deaths. Thirteen people were in the hospital. Due to COVID-19 exposure, the Alexander County Library’s main branch and Stony Point branch and the county license plate agency were temporarily closed.
