Four Suspects Face Felony Drug Charges in Burke County
57-year-old Thomas Joseph Jenkins of Oak Hill Drive in Morganton, 40-year-old Laura Lynn Chapman of Inman, South Carolina, 38-year-old Shelli Lynn Mayfield of Pops Buchanan Road in Morganton, and 39-year-old Adrian Napoleon Beaty of Spartanburg, South Carolina have all been arrested by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers on felony drug charges.
Jenkins, Chapman, and Beaty were each charged with felony trafficking methamphetamine. Chapman, Mayfield, and Beaty were all charged with felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance. Jenkins also faces one count each of trafficking opium or heroin and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for a controlled substance. In addition, Mayfield was charged with felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a schedule II controlled substance. With the exception of Mayfield, the suspects were all charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were arrested Monday (March 20) after Burke County Narcotics Officers executed a search warrant at Jenkins’ address in reference to stolen property found at the residence. The search resulted in the seizure of 225 grams of meth, approximately 50 grams of fentanyl, six grams of M.D.M.A., and stolen property valued at approximately $4,000.
All four suspects were placed in the Burke County Jail. Bond for Jenkins was set at $150,000, secured, while the other three suspects were each given a $100,000 secured bond. First appearances in District Court were scheduled yesterday (March 21) in Morganton. Jenkins, Chapman, and Mayfield have another court date coming up tomorrow. No additional appearances are currently scheduled for Beaty.
