Four Appalachian State Field Hockey Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

After another strong year in the classroom, four Mountaineer field hockey student-athletes were named to the CSC Academic All-District team, the College Sports Communicators announced Tuesday.

Junior Sarah Perkins, junior Charlotte Bosma, sophomore Hadley Kuzmicky and sophomore Bridget Donovan landed on the list. Both Bosma and Kuzmicky qualified to be nominated for CSC Academic All-America honors, which is set to be announced July 16.

Studying in cell/molecular biology, Perkins shined on the field and in the classroom this past year for the Mountaineers, posting a 3.89 GPA while helping guide the App State defense to a MAC-high five shutouts. She posted a career-high six assists in 2023, which led the team and was the fourth-highest mark in the conference a season ago. She also tallied one of three Mountaineer defensive saves in 2023, swatting a shot away against Longwood on Oct. 13. She was recently named to the Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List.

A key member of the Mountaineers’ offensive attack, Bosma excelled in the classroom this year, tallying a 3.75 GPA and landing on the Spring 2024 Dean’s List. Majoring in Physics, Bosma scored a team-high seven goals in 2023 while also leading the Black and Gold in points with 19. She finished with top-15 marks in the MAC in goals, assists, points, shots and shots on goal her junior year and was named to the All-MAC second team, her first career postseason honor.

Kuzmicky posted a stellar sophomore season in the Black and Gold, culminating in her being named Academic All-District with a 3.66 GPA. She appeared in every game in 2023 and tallied a career-high six goals and 13 points; her six goals were the second-most on the team and the 12th-most in the MAC. She was critical in the Mountaineers’ nine-game winning streak to close the regular season, as she tallied a goal in three consecutive games against Kent State, Longwood and Queens while notching the game-winning goal in overtime against Ohio to secure the Mountaineers’ first ever MAC regular-season title. She was also named to the Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List.

Majoring in finance and banking, Donovan’s 3.73 GPA helped land her CSC Academic All-District honors. Donovan was a key contributor on App State’s attacking line as she started all 19 games her sophomore season and scored five goals. Her 14 points were the second-most on the team in 2023 and her five multi-point outings ranked second on the squad. She was crucial in the MAC Tournament as her penalty stroke goal against Kent State sparked a second-half rally for the Black and Gold which led to an overtime affair. Donovan was also named to the Spring 2024 Chancellor’s List.

The 2024 Academic All-District At-Large teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and in competition.
