Five Area Players Participate in East-West All Star Soccer Games

The East-West All-Star Games had their soccer games held Tuesday night at McPherson Stadium in Greensboro.

Representing the Hickory Metro in the girls game was Hickory’s Madeline Mosteller and Fred T. Foard’s Alexis Wolgemuth. Mosteller played 52 minutes in the contest, recording a shot on goal. Wolgemuth played in goal and, despite a 1-0 loss to the East squad, she was named the MVP, with 17 saves, nine in the first half, eight in the second half.

In the boys contest, Fred T. Foard’s Irvin Martinez-Villa and a pair of Hibriten players, David Franquiz and Kevin Rivera participated as the game went to a 3-3 draw. While none of the three area players were able to score a goal, Franquiz had a shot in 62 minutes of play, Rivera had a shot on goal in 36 minutes played and Martinez-Villa had a shot on goal in his 37 minutes played. Hibriten head coach Jim Blanton served as the west team’s head coach.
