Fire Damages Hickory Home, Smoke Alarms Alert Occupants

Smoke alarms alerted occupants of a Hickory home to a fire in their residence. Shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 27) the Hickory Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 449 17th Avenue NE. When firefighters arrived they saw smoke coming from the front door. The two story home suffered moderate damage.

Due to the quick alert from their working smoke alarms, all occupants were able to safely exit their home before the first firefighters arrived. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed of two cats still inside of the home. One cat ran out of the house and after the fire was extinguished, the second cat was saved. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical issue. The Red Cross responded and will be assisting the occupants.
