Fernandez Snags A Haul in Hickory FC’s Rout Over 865 Alliance

Hickory FC put an emphatic display in securing a home playoff berth with a 6-2 drubbing of 865 Alliance on the road Saturday in Knoxville. Despite the six goals, only two players scored for Hickory FC, with Diego Fernandez attributing four of the goals and John Osadolor scoring two.

Hickory jumped out to a fast start, scoring the first four goals. Fernandez connected in the ninth minute, while Osadolor scored the next two in the 21st and 35th minute. Two minutes later, Fernandez connected on his second of the night to give Hickory a 4-0 lead. 865 Alliance would tack on a goal in the 41st minute as Hickory led 4-1 at the half.

In the second half, Hickory FC kept the pressure on but 865 Alliance would cut the lead in half with the first goal. However, Fernandez scored a hat trick early in the second half and the fourth in the 59th minute for the final 6-2 score.

Hickory ends the regular season in second place in the Southeast Division of the National Premier Soccer League standings. They finished with seven wins, two losses, and a draw. As the second place team, Hickory FC will host a playoff game on Wednesday against the third place team, Apotheos FC. Hickory won over Apotheos in their first ever game back on May 4th by the final of 2-0. The winner of Wednesday’s semifinal game advances to the championship on Saturday, July 13th against the winner of the other semifinal game, Charlottetowne Hops FC or Appalachian FC.
