Felony Drug Charges Filed Against Morganton Man

43-year-old Joshua Allen Abee of Pete Brittain Road in Morganton was arrested Monday (September 18) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of trafficking, opium or heroin, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substance, possession of stolen goods or property, and flee to elude arrest.

Abee is also charged with misdemeanor counts of simple possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with counts of driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, reckless driving to endanger, failure to wear seat belt and failure to stop for a steady red light.

Abee was arrested shortly after 11 a.m. Monday after an officer responded to an address on Hilltop Avenue to assist another agency. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office had Abee in custody due to an outstanding warrant. On August 21, Abee was arrested on the driving while impaired charge, at that time the police report stated that six grams of a white powdery substance, one dosage unit of methadone, and eight dosage units of suboxone were taken into evidence. He was not confined following the August 21 arrest.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Joshua Allen Abee has multiple convictions, all in Burke County, dating back to 1998 on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. The last conviction was in May, 2021.

Following Monday’s arrest, Abee was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $10,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (September 19). District Court dates are scheduled for September 25, October 23, and November 3.
