A fatal shooting is under investigation in Catawba County. Saturday (February 27), at 11:35 p.m., deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on 20th Avenue SW in Brookford. When deputies arrived they discovered 22-year-old Justin James Locklear of Maiden deceased from a gunshot wound.
Occupants at the 20th Ave SW residence reported hearing noises outside their home around 11:30 p.m. As the residents were attempting to locate the source of that noise they discovered Locklear in their yard. According to information received by police, Locklear reportedly attacked a male occupant of the residence prior to being shot and killed.
A vehicle that Locklear is believed to have been operating was found wrecked at the intersection of Hwy 127 South and South Center Street. That wreck scene is a short distance away from the 20th Ave SW residence. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was continuing to investigate this incident. Their findings will be submitted to the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office. No charges had been filed.
