Fatal Crash Claims Woman’s Life

A Vale resident was killed in a crash Monday (October 10) in Lincoln County. The deceased is 88-year-old Willie Richardson Richard.

On Monday, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to Reeps Grove Church Road at Hulls Grove Church Road. A 2009 Kia Spectra was traveling north on Hulls Grove Church Road, attempted to turn left from a stop sign onto Reeps Grove Church Road, and turned in front of an eastbound 2002 International dump truck.

The driver of the Kia, Willie Richardson Richard, was critically injured. Although transported from the scene by EMS, Richard passed away a short time later. The driver of the International, a Vale resident, was not injured. The dump truck was owned and operated by the North Carolina Department of Transportation Division of Highways.
