A home was heavily damaged in a fire in Morganton earlier this week. On Tuesday (April 20) at approximately 4:15 p.m. Morganton Public Safety Firefighters and Officers were dispatched to 543 Rockyford Street in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival, units reported smoke and flames coming from the single story residence. A size-up of the scene revealed that the fire had already vented through the roof.
Firefighters made a quick attack from the exterior of the residence to knock the fire back and then transitioned to an interior attack to the seat of the fire. A quick primary search of the residence was conducted to insure no one was inside. Morganton firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.
There was extensive fire damage to the structure. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time by the Morganton Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division. The American Red Cross was contacted and provided assistance in relocating the residents.
