For the second straight week, the Hickory Crawdads boast the South Atlantic League’s Pitcher of the Week. And for the second straight week, it is Mason Englert.
In his lone start last week against the Winston-Salem Dash on Thursday, Englert pitched six innings, allowing no hits and no earned runs while walking only one and striking out three. He was lifted before the start of the seventh inning, and the Crawdads came two outs away from its second no-hitter in as many weeks.
The week before, Englert threw seven innings in Hickory’s 4-0 win over Greenville and was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week. He allowed no hits, and no earned runs while walking only two. He struck out six Drive batters including two of the last three batters he faced. He threw 93 pitches in the seven innings while Theo McDowell took down the last two innings without allowing a hit as well.
In all, Englert has thrown the last 13 innings without allowing a hit.
