Eleven Bears Qualify For NCAA Championships

After the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams finished runners-up in the SAC Outdoor Championships, both programs will send a combined 11 athletes to next week’s NCAA Championships in Pueblo, Colo.

For the first time in eight years, LR will send athletes from the women’s team to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In addition, it will be the first time in program history that LR will send a relay team to the national championships with the 4×100-meter relay squad making an appearance.

Alexis Brown continues to build on her outstanding freshman season with the program as she searches for another national championship. The SAC Outdoor Championship Co-Track Athlete and Freshman of the Meet will participate in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100- meter relay races.

Another member of the 4×100-meter relay team includes Melody Jones, who secured a spot in the 100-meter hurdles after winning the event in the 2023 SAC Outdoor Championships. The remaining team members are Holly Kone, Molly McGrath and Abigail Kinoshita.

For the men, Dario Matau will be the athlete to watch out for as he is slated to compete in a school-most four events at this year’s national championships. The sophomore, who continues to display a break-out season, will be a part of the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay events.

Although participating in the 4×100-meter relay event, Trent Davis II will also appear in the 200-meter event. The junior placed third in the conference championships with a time of 20.78 seconds.

For the specific relay events, Jacob Wadsworth will join Matau and Davis in the 4×100-meter relay. Meanwhile in the 4×400-meter event, Matau and Wadsworth will run with John Sisson and Marcus Crumpler.

The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships are slated to begin on Thursday, May 25 and conclude on Saturday, May 27 in Pueblo, Colo. To stay up to date with each event, you can follow along with live results on lrbears.com.
