Election Day Tuesday, Municipal Races On Ballot

Tuesday (November 7) is Election Day and municipal races will be decided across the Greater Hickory Metro. There are contests in all Hickory Metro area counties. WHKY will have complete coverage of returns on the radio, on our website, and on WHKY News on our YouTube channel.

The races we’ll be covering include the Ward 3 contest for Hickory City Council. There are two candidates vying for the seat, incumbent Danny Seaver and challenger Daria Jackson. All other Hickory races are uncontested.

Elsewhere in Catawba County, there are contested races for Newton Mayor and City Council. Two candidates are competing in the Mayor’s race, and there are ten candidates running for three available seats on council. Maiden has contested races for Mayor and Town Council, including a contested race for an unexpired seat. There is also a contested race for Mayor in the Town of Catawba.

In Caldwell County, there are four candidates for three seats on Lenoir City Council. Also in Caldwell, there is a contested race for Granite Falls Town Council, where seven candidates are competing for three seats. In Burke County, there are contested races for Valdese Town Council in Wards 1, 4, and 5. In addition, there is a race for Mayor in the Town of Drexel.

Alexander County voting is limited to Taylorsville this election cycle, and there are contested races for Mayor and Town Council. There’s a crowded field in the Town Council race, where 13 candidates have filed to run for four available seats. In Iredell County, there is a contested race for Mayor of the Town of Mooresville.

The polls open Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. If you’d like to know where you can go to vote click this link and fill out the information.
