Eccleston’s Career Night Propels Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse to Win

Senior Toron Eccleston scored a career-high seven goals in a 10-goal victory at Anderson on Wednesday evening, 17-7. The seven-goal performance from Eccleston ties the second-most goals in a single game in program history as No. 7 LR improves to 6-1 in conference play this season and 5-2 against ranked teams on the season.

Eccleston started the scoring exactly five minutes into the game as LR scored the first seven of the game. Evan Voss (3), Will Canata (1) and Eccleston (3) scored the first six for LR before the Trojans got in the scoring column at the 7:33 mark of the second quarter.

Canata and Eccleston went back-to-back following the Trojans first goal but Max Calabrese scored for the hosts before halftime to make it 9-2 LR. The Bears scored the first three of the second half to make it 12-2 and never allowed the Trojans a chance to come back.

After winning SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, Nate Ashley forced four turnovers for the second straight game and added three ground balls. Rob Pensabene started for the third straight game and earned the win by making a career-high 16 saves.

Myles Moffat added three goals and two assists and Voss finished with three scores. John Paulus had a monster effort at the face off X with 18 wins in 25 attempts and a career-high 14 ground balls.

LR held a 52-31 advantage in shots with 34 being on goal. The Bears went 17-of-18 on clears and won 19 of 27 face offs as a team.

The seven goals from Eccleston gives him 143 for his career which moves him past Joe Buduo for second place on the all-time goal scoring list at LR. Buduo’s eight-goal effort against Queens on March 21, 2018 stands as the single-game record. Eccleston is the fifth player in team history to score seven times.

The last time a player scored seven goals for LR was Moffat against Westminster on Feb. 14, 2021. Anderson has won 10 games for the first time in program history. This is the seventh season LR has earned double-digit wins.

LR is 3-0 all-time against the Trojans and 64-8 all-time in SAC play. LR is 40-12 all-time in the month of April. This is the ninth opponent that has failed to reach double figures in scoring against LR this season.

The Bears came into the game with a scoring margin of +9.9. LR can clinch the two-seed and a first round bye in the SAC Tournament with a win over Limestone on Saturday.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 11-2 overall, 6-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears return to action on Saturday when they host Limestone at 7 p.m.
