Jonathan Winkler has been named the East Burke football coach June 30, 2026 as announced by East Burke High School Principal Dr. Anna Moose announced.

Winkler’s journey in athletics began at East Burke High School where he is a class of 2000 graduated. He distinguished himself as a standout multi-sport athlete, earning All-Conference honors in both football and track and field. Winkler has over 20 years of coaching experience in and around the local school community, including Hibriten High School, Alexander Central, and Draughn High School, serving in roles ranging from position coach to defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

Winkler replaces Chris Cogdill. Cogdill accepted the Head Football Coach position at East Rutherford High School in late June. Cogdill spent only one season as the head coach of the Cavaliers. He went 4-7 overall, 4-3 in the Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference. The Cavs were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs to Tuscola on the road last season, 13-6.
