Early Morning Wreck In Catawba County Results In Deaths Of Mother And Child

A woman and her child were killed in an early morning crash in Catawba County. Today (June 23), at approximately 3:20 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to N.C. 16 near Mount Ruhama Church Road. A 2007 BMW X3 was traveling north on N.C. 16, crossed the double yellow line, and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Toyota Tundra. The pickup traveled off the road to the right, overturned, and came to rest on its side.

The driver of the BMW, 20-year-old Allison Faith Presley of Indian Trail, died at the scene. Her child and rear-seat passenger, three-year-old Aiden Presley also passed away at the scene. A 21-year-old Newton man who was a passenger in the BMW, received minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 30-year-old Denver resident, received serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital.

The collision occurred in a construction zone but was unrelated to any ongoing work. The initial investigation indicates Presley may have fallen asleep while driving. All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. The child was restrained in a car seat; however, the car seat was not installed properly in the vehicle.

N.C. 16 was closed for approximately 3 hours during the on-scene investigation. Traffic was detoured by first responders until rerouted by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
