Early Morning Traffic Stop Results In Multiple Felony Drug Charges

42-year-old Emanuel Devon Rutherford of Morganton was arrested today (June 10) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver methamphetamine and cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of meth and possession of crack cocaine. He’s also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.

Shortly after 12:15 a.m. today, a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Emanuel Devon Rutherford. Rutherford was known by the officer to have a revoked driver’s license. While being placed under arrest, Rutherford was found to be in possession of a glass pipe used for smoking meth.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of one gram of meth, 3.7 grams of crack cocaine, small individual plastic baggies, a glass pipe used for smoking meth and two glass pipes used for smoking crack cocaine. All items were seized for evidence.

Rutherford has previously been charged with driving while license revoked more than ten times. He’s also been previously charged with possession of Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of stolen goods, assault on a female and assault by strangulation.

Rutherford was placed in the Burke County Jail under $27,500 secured bond. A District Court date is scheduled this Friday (June 14).
