Due To High Temperatures, Duke Energy Requesting That Customers Conserve
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WHKY) – Unusually high temperatures for this time of year across the Carolinas are driving increased energy demand, and available power supplies are currently very limited. Duke Energy works throughout the year to prepare for this type of grid event. They are taking every possible action to manage the available power supply.
Energy conservation can play a crucial role to protect the grid from damage and possibly longer, more widespread outages. You can help by cutting back on any nonessential energy use from now until 8 p.m. today:
◾Raise thermostats to the highest comfortable setting for your employees and customers, if safe to do so.
◾Turn off any equipment not immediately essential for daily operations.
◾Dim lighting in spaces not occupied by staff or customers.
◾Leverage energy management systems, where applicable, to help quickly reduce unnecessary electric load.
◾Switch laptops to a battery source for the next several hours, where feasible.
◾For businesses that use refrigeration, raise temperatures a degree or two temporarily until grid conditions improve.
◾Where viable, consider allowing office staff to work remotely.
Duke Energy says in a news release that they understand that asking businesses to reduce energy use, especially during a period of hot weather, is challenging, and they greatly appreciate your efforts. Any actions your facility can take will help. They thanked customers for their cooperation and assistance.
