Drug, Firearm Charges Filed Against Suspect Arrested Following Traffic Stop

22-year-old Tamyaa Altavia Holland of Buffalo Shoals Road in Statesville was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. She’s charged with felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor carrying a concealed gun.

Last Wednesday, February 28, an officer with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Salisbury Highway at Business Park Drive east of Statesville. The vehicle was stopped due to a registration violation.

After speaking with the driver, the vehicle was searched. The search resulted in the discovery of a loaded 9 millimeter handgun which was found under the passenger seat. The passenger, Tamyaa Altavia Holland, said that the firearm was hers, however, she does not have a concealed handgun permit.

A deputy then searched the serial number on the firearm in a criminal database and learned it had been reported as stolen from Hickory. The Hickory Police Department was contacted about the stolen firearm. Holland was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond. She was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (March 6). Her next District Court date is March 21.
