Drought Conditions Persist Despite Rainfall

Despite recent rainfall, the Hickory Metro and entire state of North Carolina remains in a drought. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, conditions have improved in all Hickory Metro counties, however drought conditions remain. Caldwell and Alexander Counties are still determined to be in an extreme drought, which is the fourth most severe category out of five.

Small portions of Catawba and Burke Counties are considered to be in an extreme drought, while most of those counties are designated as being in a severe drought, the third most severe category. Check with your local county or municipality for specific information regarding water use and possible restrictions.
