A woman is facing multiple charges after a reckless driving crash early Monday morning (May 18) in Morganton. Just before 2:00 a.m., the Morganton Department of Public Safety, along with Burke County EMS, responded to the 400 block of North Green Street following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Investigators say a 21-year-old resident of Connelly Springs was driving a 2011 BMW at a high rate of speed before losing control. According to authorities, the vehicle struck a power pole, a no parking sign, and a fire hydrant before traveling approximately 138 feet and coming to rest in the yard of a home on North Green Street. The crash caused a temporary power outage in several nearby blocks.

The driver was charged with speeding 70 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone, reckless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt. She was evaluated at the scene by Burke County EMS and later released.
