After tying his career high with 21 points in a 61-57 win at Charlotte on Friday, App State men’s basketball guard Adrian Delph has been named Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
It marks the first Player of the Week honor for Delph.
Delph’s 21 points tied his career best set last season against Georgia Southern. He made seven field goals, which tied his career high, and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. In addition, he pulled down a season best five rebounds, dished out a career high five assists and tied his career high with a pair of blocks.
Leading 56-55 with under a minute left, Delph drained a fadeaway 3-pointer from the top of the key to beat the expiring shot clock and give the Mountaineers a 59-55 lead with 13.9 seconds left. He added a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the contest to put the game away.
Delph is averaging a career high and team leading 13.6 points this season on a career best 51.0 percent shooting from the field. The Mountaineers stand at 4-1 on the season, which marks the best start for the program since the 1993-94 season.
App State returns to action on Tuesday evening at No. 10 Tennessee at 7 p.m. on SEC Network and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. The Mountaineers then return to the High Country for back-to-back home games on Thursday and Friday against Greensboro College and Columbia International. Tip for both contests is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
