DA Determines That Fatal Shooting In Burke County Was In Self Defense

No charges will be filed in a fatal shooting in Burke County. Shortly before 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday (July 29), the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on Knob Avenue in Connelly Springs. Police were told that there was yelling, screaming and gunshots at that residence. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s deputies learned that two men had been shot and a man involved in the shooting had left the scene with a woman.

The name of the man who was shot and killed was 45-year-old Robert Winston J. Perkins, Jr. of Knob Avenue in Connelly Springs. A male relative of Perkins was shot and injured. The person who was involved in the shooting and had left the scene turned himself in to Cleveland County Sheriff’s Deputies. CID also located, and they interviewed the woman who had left the scene.

The Burke County Criminal Investigations Division completed their investigation and met with the District Attorney’s Office. Following a review of all the evidence presented, the District Attorney ruled that the shooting was in self-defense and no charges would be issued.
