The Catawba Valley Community College softball program equaled its win total from its pandemic-shortened inaugural season on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Surry Community College at the Highland Recreation Center.
With the wins, the Red Hawks are now 11-5 overall and 4-2 in Region 10 play.
Game one: Catawba Valley 5, Surry 1
Ashlyn Parsons, Grace Andrews and Cali Hinnant each tallied two hits each, leading the Red Hawks to the four-run victory in Saturday’s opener against the Knights.
Parsons, Andrews, Hinnant and catcher Kyliee Lapham all drove in one RBI each in the victory for CVCC.
Hinnant — Catawba Valley’s game one starting pitcher — improved to 6-1 on the season. She allowed eight hits, one run, no walks and struck out eight batters in her seven-inning appearance.
Game two: Catawba Valley 11, Surry 3 (six innings)
Third baseman Alleigh Himes went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBI, leading the Red Hawks to the game two win and doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Center fielder Ashlyn Parsons, shortstop Grace Andrews and second baseman Hayley Morrow added two hits each for CVCC. Parsons and Morrow also drove in two RBI each.
Red Hawks starting pitcher Payton Goble won her fifth game of the season. She allowed seven hits, three runs, three walks and struck out two batters in six innings of work.
The CVCC softball team plays its second doubleheader in as many days on Sunday when it welcomes Patrick Henry to the Highland Recreation Center. First pitch is set for noon.
