CVCC Softball, Baseball Named NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year
A pair of Catawba Valley Community College athletic programs have been named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.
The Red Hawk baseball and softball programs received NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors this past week. The award goes to an NJCAA member program who achieves at least a cumulative 3.0 team grade point average during the 2022-23 school year.
The Red Hawk softball program earned the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honor for the second-straight year after recording a team GPA of 3.2. It was one of 176 NJCAA softball programs throughout NJCAA to earn the Academic Team of the Year distinction.
“I’m very proud of our girls for working hard not only on the field, but in the classroom,” said Red Hawk softball head coach Josh Bumgarner. “This group was special in a number of ways, and I can’t think of a better way to close out the 2022-23 chapter of CVCC softball than by having this group recognized as an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.”
For the third-straight year, the CVCC baseball program earned NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors after recording a cumulative team GPA of 3.0.
The Red Hawks’ baseball program was one of 137 NJCAA baseball programs in the nation to earn this accolade.
“I’m proud of our guys for their efforts in the classroom,” said Catawba Valley head baseball coach Marshall McDonald. “They not only excelled on the field, but in the classroom as well. They continue to set the academic standard for our program for the future.”
A total of 1,078 NJCAA athletic teams from 30 different sports received the NJCAA Team of the Year honor.
