CVCC Opens Applications for Instructors of High School Equivalency Program at Alexander Correctional

On Tuesday, March 11, 2024 Catawba Valley Community College announced they are accepting applications for instructors of high school equivalency program at Alexander Correctional. The CVCC high school equivalency classroom at Alexander Correctional (AXCI) shines a light of hope into what is otherwise a bleak prison existence. Although dealing with the realities of incarceration is a challenge for both inmates and instructors, there is real joy in teaching and helping these students prepare for their future.

Because of the quick rise in student enrollment, CVCC/AXCI is now accepting applications for part-time instructors of its High School Equivalency program. Anyone with a background in education and instruction is encouraged to apply.

Mr. Bell, current instructor says, “Earning a high school equivalency is, for many, the first time that these inmates are known to their family and friends for doing something positive, Helping them achieve this goal is a privilege, and it is a special joy to announce to a student that they have passed their final exams and completed their high school education.”

With every graduating class, inmates show their commitment to improving themselves and, upon release, to continue helping their family.

To apply for this part-time instructor position with the CVCC/AXCI program, please contact Vera Lanier, Director of College & Career Readiness at CVCC Alexander Complex, at vlanier@cvcc.edu.
