Crash Victim’s Dog Found; Receiving Treatment

Following a fatal accident in Catawba County Monday (September 21) that took the life of 47-year-old Sarah Ann McKinney of Asheville, the Highway Patrol now reports that Ms. McKinney’s eight-month-old puppy has been found. Yesterday (September 22), Melanie Wilder of Claremont stopped when she spotted the dog, named Zeus, in the area of the collision.

Ms. Wilder immediately provided comfort and transported Zeus to an emergency veterinary clinic in Hickory. An initial assessment revealed serious injuries. Zeus was transferred to a clinic in Charlotte for further evaluation and treatment. The investigating Trooper has been in contact with McKinney’s family to share the news.

According to a post on Ms. McKinney’s Facebook page, Zeus should make a full recovery with surgery and rehab. Donations can be made to at hartmanshaven.org.
