A Conover man was killed in an early morning motorcycle accident in Catawba County today (September 22). The deceased is 21-year-old Gregory Allen Propst.
At about 6:15 a.m. today, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the accident on Rifle Range Road. The driver of a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pulled out of a private driveway and attempted to turn left onto Rifle Range Road. The driver of the truck failed to yield the right of way to a northbound 2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle. The truck collided with the motorcycle.
The driver of the Silverado, 58-year-old Eddie Huffman of Conover, was not injured. Mr. Propst, who was driving the motorcycle, passed away at the scene. Huffman was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Rifle Range Road was closed for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
