Conover Man Charged With Failing To Register As Sex Offender

41-year-old Eric Junior West of Dana Lane in Conover was arrested Wednesday (June 12) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony failure to register or falsification of information as a sex offender.

West is a sex offender as a result of a conviction in Catawba County in July, 2002. According to the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry, West was convicted of two counts of indecent liberties with a minor. The crimes were committed in February of 2000. West was 17-years-old and the victim was one-year-old, according to online records. West received 60 months probation.

Following Wednesday’s arrest, West was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $50,000 secured bond. A Superior Court date is scheduled for July 15.
