The City of Hickory has reported a discharge of untreated wastewater. Earlier today (May 16), an estimated 12,000 gallons of untreated wastewater was discharged into the Henry Fork River, in the Catawba River Basin due to pipe failure. The overflow occurred at 2274 1st Street S.E.

According to a press release issued by the city, the water remains safe. The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event and is reviewing the matter. For more information, contact Hickory’s Public Utilities Department at 828-323-7427.
