Cherryville Woman Killed in Saturday A.M. Accident in Lincoln County

One person was killed in an accident Saturday morning (June 4) in Lincoln County. The deceased is 39-year-old Stephanie Michelle Painter of Cherryville.

At about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident on N.C. Highway 73 near Ingleside Farm Road. A westbound 1989 Freightliner truck on Highway 73 crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2014 Ford Econoline van.

The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old male from Cherryville, and two passengers were injured and transported by E.M.S. to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. One of the passengers, Ms. Painter, was critically injured and passed away on Sunday. The driver of the van, a 43-year-old male from Lincolnton, was also seriously injured and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Highway 73 was closed in the area for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation. Charges have not been filed and are pending the completion of the investigation and consultation with the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
